    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The reigning world champions played two friendlies during the March international break without their talismanic skipper as the 36-year-old withdrew his name from the squad after picking up an injury during Inter Miami's CONCACAF Champions Cup clash against Nashville earlier this month. The South American giants scored six goals in their two matches against El Salvador and Costa Rica and conceded just once, showing that they are still a formidable outfit when Messi is unavailable.

Pakistan call up uncapped Sahibzada Farhan for T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe

Asif Ali, meanwhile, has found a place in the ODI squad, which also features Yasir Shah, who hasn’t played a 50-overs game for Pakistan since October 2016

Danyal Rasool22-Jun-2018A full-strength touring party from Pakistan will visit Zimbabwe in July for a T20I tri-series and bilateral ODI series. The tri-series, which also features Australia, begins on July 1 with the final on July 8, while the five-match ODI series begins on July 13.As with Pakistan’s T20Is against Scotland, Pakistan have opted against complacency and named a strong side for the tri-series, with only one change, Sahibzada Farhan earning a maiden call-up with opener Ahmed Shehzad dropping out.ESPNcricinfo LtdFarhan, a 22-year old opening batsman, has an impressive List A record, averaging over 52. He also played for Islamabad United in the PSL this season, but was somewhat underwhelming, scoring 91 runs in five innings. Asif Ali and Hussain Talat, who both found themselves called up to the T20I side against West Indies in Karachi, have retained their places, with Asif also earning a spot in the ODI side for the first time.Pakistan haven’t played an ODI since a five-match series in New Zealand in January. From that squad they have dropped Azhar Ali, with the left-handed pair of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq likely to open the batting. Junaid Khan returns to the side, having missed the New Zealand series, while Imad Wasim has failed to fully recover from a knee injury that has been a persistent issue for the allrounder.Babar Azam has been named in the 16-member ODI squad, though a final decision on the 23-year old will be taken after assessing his recovery from the arm fracture that kept him out of the much of the tour of the UK.ESPNcricinfo LtdMohammad Amir, who had asked to be rested for part of the Zimbabwe tour, has been named in both squads; ESPNcricinfo understands coach Mickey Arthur was unwilling to allow him to miss the tour. Yasir Shah, who missed the UK tour with a stress fracture, finds a place in the ODI squad. It is an intriguing development, since Yasir last played an ODI in October 2016; depending on conditions, Pakistan could field a twin-legspin attack, with Shadab Khan also part of the squad.

Rangers: Gers suffer massive injury blow as 25 y/o to miss several weeks

Rangers have suffered a major injury setback for one player ahead of their return to action, acting as a significant blow for Michael Beale.

Who is currently injured for Rangers?

The Gers have endured a below-par to the season, finding themselves struggling for top form in both the Scottish Premiership and in Europe. They were dumped out of the Champions League by PSV Eindhoven, losing 5-1 in the return leg in the Netherlands, and they were beaten 1-0 at home to rivals Celtic in their last league outing.

It means that Beale's side are four points behind their man title adversaries already, giving them little room for error even this early in the season, not to mention cranking up the pressure on the manager.

On Saturday afternoon, Rangers are back in action after the international break, making the trip to St Johnstone for a Saturday lunchtime clash in the league. It feels like a must-win game for Beale and his players, in order to pick up some much-needed momentum.

They aren't without injury problems, however, with Steven Davis a high-profile absentee who isn't expected to return from a serious knee issue until later this year, and Kieran Dowell also unavailable at the moment. Now, another setback has emerged ahead of the weekend action, acting as a further blow for the Gers.

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell.

How long is Todd Cantwell out for?

According to The Daily Record, Todd Cantwell has picked up a knee problem, meaning he is out going to be out of action for the next several matches:

"Michael Beale has revealed that Todd Cantwell is set to miss the next "three or four games" with a knee injury. The Englishman has been is a key player for Michael Beale's side this season, playing eight out of nine games for Rangers so far. His last was against the Celtic, seeing out the 90 minutes but had to go off the pitch on the 81st minute for treatment to after a challenge with Celts winger Daizen Maeda.

"Following the 1-0 defeat, images of Cantwell was wearing a leg brace in the airport were circulated on social media. Ahead of the clash with St Johnstone, Beale also noted that Kieran Dowell would remain on the sidelines. However, there was positive news on Tom Lawrence and Kemar Roofe."

This is a massive blow for Rangers, with Cantwell someone who is undoubtedly an important figure moving forward, having completed a move from Norwich City back in the January transfer window. He has scored and assisted six times apiece in 28 appearances, highlighting the quality that he can provide from midfield.

Granted, he hasn't always necessarily been the most consistent figure, but journalist Josh Bunting has described him as "outstanding" in the recent past, and he could be a significant miss over the next month or so, in terms of being something of a link man between the midfield and the attack.

The hope is that his injury isn't too serious and that he misses as few games as possible, but Beale will be cursing his luck at a time when he desperately needs some good fortune.

Everton Keen To Join Race For "Wonderful Talent" Before Deadline

Without a single point and without a single goal in their opening three games this season, to say that Everton are in desperate need of reinforcements before the end of the summer transfer window would be an incredible understatement.

Sean Dyche's side have particularly looked lost going forward, with last season's issues in front of goal rearing their head once more months later.

With just four days left in the transfer window, it is a problem that Everton must solve if they are to stand any chance of maintaining their top flight status this season.

Having reportedly agreed a deal to welcome Udinese forward Beto, though, reports suggest that Everton want to get involved in another transfer battle which would significantly bolster their offensive options.

What's the latest Everton transfer news?

So far this summer, Everton have welcomed a total of four reinforcements, with Ashley Young, Jack Harrison, Chermiti, and Arnaut Danjuma all arriving hoping to help the Toffees avoid relegation.

Of course, however, none of the arrivals have made a significant impact as things stand, though it is early days, with Everton struggling to find even an ounce of form to get their season going.

Since opening their campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Fulham, Dyche's side have been smashed 4-0 by Aston Villa, and beaten by relegation rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With that said, it's clear that Beto alone can't put an end to Everton's run to forget, and that's where Johan Bakayoko could come in.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Everton want to get into the fight to sign the PSV Eindhoven winger before the end of the transfer window this summer.

They will have to act fast if they want to land the 20-year-old, however, given Paris Saint-Germain's reported €25m (£21m) bid, and PSV's reported asking price of €30m (£26m), plus bonuses.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also reportedly interested in making a move for Bakayoko if Eberechi Eze leaves this summer.

Should Everton sign Johan Bakayoko?

Welcoming Bakayoko this summer would represent incredibly solid business from Everton, for both their present and future.

Compared to current Toffees wingers, it is the PSV man who stood out last season, proven by his statistics via FBref.

The Belgian has earned plenty of praise throughout what is still a relatively young career, too, including from Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, who previously tweeted:

"Johan Bakayoko – 6 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games for Jong PSV. Wonderful talent, fantastic left foot. Madueke-esque. Stay tuned."

Kulig was correct in his verdict to stay tuned, that's for sure, with the winger performing at an even higher standard in the current campaign.

So far this season, in just six games, Bakayoko already has four assists to his name.

It is the type of creativity that Beto could thrive on at Goodison Park, should he complete his move from Udinese as expected.

Those at Everton, who are eager to join the race for the winger, will just be hoping to unexpectedly welcome Bakayoko this summer, too.

Exciting transfer update emerges at Spurs with things to "progress"

Tottenham Hotspur will step up their pursuit of one of Europe's most exciting young prospects this week and talks between the player and club are 'expected to progress', according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

What's the latest Tottenham Hotspur transfer news?

Spurs have enjoyed a productive transfer window in N17 regarding incomings, with Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Alejo Veliz, Manor Solomon and Ashley Phillips pitching up in north London so far, as per Transfermarkt.

Of course, star man Harry Kane has departed Tottenham for a fee in the region of £100 million to seek a new challenge at Bayern Munich, as per The Guardian, leaving Richarlison and Argentine youngster Veliz as viable forward options for Ange Postecoglou.

Kane stated that he hasn't closed the door on a potential return to Tottenham somewhere down the line on social media, stating: "It’s not a goodbye because you never know how things pan out in the future, but it’s a thank you and I’ll see you soon."

Identifying his replacement will now be of paramount importance to Spurs boss Postecoglou and Nottingham Forest striker Brennan Johnson has emerged as a serious target to succeed the England international; however, he may cost in the region of £45 million to prize away from the Tricky Trees, according to Telegraph Sport.

One other name who has been mentioned in connection with Tottenham quite heavily this window is Gent striker Gift Orban and they are said to be readying a bid for the Nigerian youngster, as per The Evening Standard.

Football Insider claim that Orban has left Tottenham scouts 'blown away' due to his exploits in Belgium and his 'huge potential' has given club chiefs belief that he could fill the huge shoes of Kane for many years to come.

Orban has enjoyed a fruitful career in front of goal so far, registering 44 goals and nine assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Jones has revealed that Orban's proposed move to Spurs is 'expected to progress' in the coming days.

Jones stated: "I expect them to make three signings. I don't think that has changed in the past week.

"A move for Orban is still alive and that is expected to progress by the middle of this week. That is what I was told over the weekend.

"Obviously, Richarlison is going to get more chances this season and, in front of goal, Postecoglou is hopeful that he can start to deliver. That will be interesting."

What now for Tottenham Hotspur?

Cited by The Evening Standard, Postecoglou has indicated that shifting players off the wage bill will be a big part of his plans for the rest of the window, stating: “Over the next three weeks the priority is to trim the squad down and see where we're at and then fill the gaps where we need to fill the gaps.”

According to 90min, Eric Dier could become a casualty of Postecoglou's first window in charge amid interest in his services from several clubs around Europe and further afield, including Crystal Palace, Celtic, AS Monaco, Sporting Clube de Portugal and Al Nassr.

Spurs defender Eric Dier.

Gianluca Di Marzio via The Sun claim that Tottenham veteran Hugo Lloris could be on his way to Serie A giants Lazio as a potential replacement for Luis Maximiano.

Tanguy Ndombele is on a list of unwanted players at Spurs and Turkish clubs Fenerbache and Galatasaray are keen to offer him an escape route from his current circumstances, as per The Sun.

Man Utd Show "Interest" In "Complete" £43m Pavard Upgrade

Manchester United appear to have identified a leading candidate to replace Harry Maguire this summer, with the former Red Devils skipper seemingly on his way to joining another Premier League club…

Will Maguire leave Man United this summer?

As per various sources, the 30-year-old looks set to seal a move to West Ham United on a £30m deal to bring an end to his turbulent time at Old Trafford, with United seemingly compromising on their prior £50m valuation of the England international.

With that departure to the London Stadium in the works, respected journalist Samuel Luckhurst revealed on Twitter that Bayer Leverkusen ace, Edmond Tapsoba is "of interest" to Erik ten Hag and co, with the 24-year-old having also caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur amid their own centre-back search this summer.

Read the latest Manchester United transfer news HERE…

In his attached piece for Manchester Evening News, Luckhurst added that the Carabao Cup winners are 'attempting' to acquire another central defender amid Maguire's impending exit, with the Burkina Faso international said to be 'admired' by the United hierarchy.

How good is Edmond Tapsoba?

The end is nigh for Maguire it would seem, with the former Leicester City man in need of a fresh start after becoming a source of mockery and criticism in recent times at the Theatre of Dreams, with The Athletic's Carl Anka noting that the 6 foot 3 dud had "found himself derided, dropped and turned into a meme".

While Ten Hag remains rather flush when it comes to alternative centre-back options – in the form of Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane – further competition and cover is likely to be needed as the club gets ready to compete on four fronts yet again.

Having been lauded as a "complete & elegant" defender by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Tapsoba could represent a dream option as far as the Red Devils are concerned, even if the 6 foot 4 rock may not exactly come cheap having been valued at around €50m (£43m) of late.

Benjamin Pavard

It does appear that Ten Hag is looking to the Bundesliga to find a new centre-back recruit with speculation also rife that Bayern Munich's Benjamin Pavard could be on his way to Manchester, although despite the Frenchman's World Cup-winning experience, his Leverkusen counterpart could perhaps offer a more orthodox fit in the heart of the defence – with Pavard also regularly utilised at right-back.

One particular strength of Tapsoba's is his ability to carry the ball out from the back with relative ease, with the former Vitoria de Guimaraes man notably ranking in the top 7% among those in his position in Europe's top five leagues for progressive carries per 90, as well as in the top 8% successful take-ons per 90.

Pavard, meanwhile, does impressively rank in the top 8% for progressive carries, although the former Stuttgart man only ranks in the bottom 6% with regard to successful take-ons, thus indicating that he is perhaps less effective at taking on his man when in possession.

With the arrival of an "exceptional" ball-playing goalkeeper in the form of Andre Onana – as described by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola – the importance of being able to play out from the back is likely to have only increased as far as Ten Hag is concerned.

Equally, with Pavard also not exactly a long-term option at the age of 27, analyst Aaron Moniz has suggested that the versatile asset is "a bit older than ideal and sub-elite at both RB and CB", while Tapsoba and fellow target Jean-Clair Todibo are said to be the "right profiles".

That would suggest that if the Leverkusen ace is given the nod by United this summer, he could represent a mainstay in the backline for years to come.

Hope ebbs for Middlesex as weather leaves them needing favours

It was always going to be about bonus points. Middlesex, hamstrung by a venue unfit for Championship cricket, have had to graft more in the rain delays than out in the middle. So far, only 59 overs have been possible across three days. In that time, Middlesex have been unable to get far. They are currently 162 for 7, locked in their own battle for whatever they can muster from a game that has almost certainly put a fork in outground cricket in September. Who knows what it might mean for the defending champion’s Division One status. It’s hard not to read that sentence and now think it is melodramatic. But the truth of the matter is that even Hampshire, who started the season as runaway leaders before Essex shaped up, were mathematically susceptible to the drop before this round. Now, their two bowling points along with the inevitable points for this draw will be enough. They have been sitting pretty throughout this match. While Middlesex’s players and managing director of cricket Angus Fraser have pitched in with the groundstaff, the Hants players kept warm indoors with a very justified sense of “not our problem”. They are as annoyed as anyone at the lack of cricket this week. The first order of business for the umpires this morning was to announce an early lunch for 12pm, allowing further checks on the state of the ground throughout the day. Hourly updates on the state of play followed, right until 3pm, when it was decided that a 3.30pm start would work. At that point, Yorkshire, who started this round level on points with Middlesex – just 13 above the relegation zone – had brought up their first batting point. Typically, thirty minutes later, it started raining at Uxbridge. Not for the first time, Middlesex players, accompanied by Fraser, helped out a skeleton groundstaff and covered as much of the ground as they could. Their quick work preserved the areas worst affected by the previous deluges and also ensured play was able to begin at 4.15pm, under bright sunshine. Over in south London, Yorkshire were bowled out 198 short of Surrey’s first innings, and were duly forced to follow on.Victory over Yorkshire will be the first of two favours Middlesex will ask of their south London rivals this fortnight. While a return to Lord’s next week sees Lancashire as opponents, Surrey host Somerset. But whatever local cheer the sun brought had dissipated by stumps. Having restarted the innings on 76 for 3, with 28.5 overs remaining, a series of misjudgements led to the fall of four wickets. Of course, Hampshire bowled well for their lot: Adam Voges squared-up expertly by Fidel Edwards and caught at second slip by Jimmy Adams, before Adams took his second when Middlesex debutant Max Holden threw his hands a good delivery from Ian Holland. A change at the Gatting Way End saw Kyle Abbott return to pick up the last two, forcing James Franklin to play on and James Harris to not play at all – bowled and lbw for ducks, respectively. Then, news filtered through of a fightback from Yorkshire that meant they reached the close of day three on 59 for 1, 139 behind. Meanwhile Somerset were rounding on a victory at Taunton against Lancashire: the visitors 45 ahead with just two wickets remaining. If Somerset give Essex the title with a win, and Yorkshire hold firm, Middlesex will drop into the relegation places should they leave Uxbridge without a bonus point. Somerset, who watched on in horror as a Championship title was ripped away from them by a manufactured chase at Lord’s in a thrilling finale to the 2016 summer, host Middlesex in the final round of the season. Contrivance, anyone?
