انفعل المدير الفني لمنتخب الأرجنتين، ليونيل سكالوني، على الصحافة في مؤتمره قبل مباراة هولندا في دور الـ8 من بطولة كأس العالم قطر 2022.

ووجه صحفي سؤالًا في المؤتمر حول إصابة رودريجو دي بول، فما كان من سكالوني سوى الانفعال بغضب: “لا أعرف هل أنت تمثل هولندا أم الأرجنتين؟ لماذا تسألونني عن إصابة رودريجو”.

وتابع: “لقد تدربنا خلف الأبواب المغلقة، لسنا مهتمين بالمعلومات التي تقال في الصحافة، لم يحضر الصحفيين التدريبات، يجب أن نعرف جيدًا ما نقوم بنشره ونتأكد منه”.

وأضاف: “من حيث المبدأ دي بول بخير، كذلك دي ماريا، سنراهم في التدريبات ونستقر على تشكيل المباراة”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “يجب أن نتحلى بالهدوء أمام هولندا، سنقدم كل ما لدينا، عليكم أن تتأكدوا من ذلك الأمر، هذا ما يريده الناس، لأننا نعلم كم أن كرة القدم غدارة للغاية”.

وعن وضع ديبالا الذي لا يشارك في المباريات: “لدينا 26 لاعبًا، رغم أنه لاعب جيد لكننا نحاول الاستفادة من اللاعبين وفقًا لمجريات المباريات في كأس العالم”.

I was determined not to repeat that mistake today. I will give my best to stretch my innings as long as possible tomorrow.”Saxena and Kanitkar added 206 runs in 84 overs to grind out Mumbai. “We just told each other that we shall not throw our wickets,” Saxena said. “We just wanted to keep out the good deliveries and wait for the bad balls. Patience was our key today.” There was a lot of chirping from the Mumbai fielders but they couldn’t break Saxena’s focus. “One player called me too,” Saxena said with a chuckle. “I was doubly determined and just focussed on the job on the hand.”Aakash Chopra, who was out for 19 to a dubious lbw decision, put Saxena’s effort in the right context. “It’s one thing when professionals like Kanitkar or I score but for someone like Saxena to score a hundred in a pressure quarter-final against Mumbai, it means a lot to him, to his team and the local cricketers. The innings was of great importance. Saxena is not someone who is a strokemaker; his forte is patience and he is someone who is well aware of his own game. He gritted it out there brilliantly.”Chopra said the first session was the most crucial phase of play. “Mumbai bowled well in that session and kept it really tight. Only 60 runs came but it was fascinating to watch how Saxena and Kanitkar applied themselves.”Kanitkar didn’t want his team-mates to get complacent. “You can’t get take anything for granted right now. There are still two days to go. We have to ensure that we keep batting and don’t allow Mumbai the time to get back into the game.” Most domestic teams are wary of Mumbai’s reputation to script jailbreaks and Rajasthan, too, were understandably cautious.

Andre Fletcher led an impressive batting performance by Windward Islands that saw them beat Combined Campuses and Colleges by 28 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Fletcher scored 88 off 59 balls at the top of the order as Windward amassed 189. Fletcher added 68 runs with his opening partner Johnson Charles and then another 78 with Keddy Lesporis. But it was the last two overs that took Windwards’ total from a competitive one to a match-winning one. They were 146 for 2 when Lesporis was out off the last ball of the 18th over. Captain Darren Sammy walked in, faced five balls, hit two of them for boundaries and one for six, and finished with 18 not out. Fletcher was equally aggressive at the other end as Windwards added 43 in the last two overs.CCC managed to stay abreast with the required run-rate till around the 12th over of their innings. Captain Romel Currency and Miles Bascombe put together 65 for the first wicket and they had moved to 102 for 2 in 11.1 overs. A couple of quick wickets set them back, William Perkins falling to seamer Keon Peters, and Floyd Reifer dismissed by fast bowler Nelon Pascal. The run-rate slowed and wickets fell in a heap at the end as the lower-middle order tried to reach the total. CCC finished at 161 for 8.

Defending champions Guyana sunk to a 50-run loss against Jamaica in the opening game of the Caribbean Twenty20 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. In a low-scoring fixture, Marlon Samuels starred with 42, striking four fours, to guide his team to 115 for 7. Offspinner Royston Crandon bagged three wickets to restrict Jamaica to what seemed like a below-par score, but Guyana were abject in their reply. Opener Travis Dowlin was the team’s highest scorer with 14, and only two batsmen reached double-figures, as Guyana were shot out for 65. Fast-bowling allrounder Andre Russell picked up three wickets and was supported by Dave Bernard and Krishmar Santioke, who grabbed two each.

Contratado por R$ 10 milhões do Sport, o experiente jogador, de 32 anos, ainda não conseguiu demonstrar um bom futebol no clube do Morumbi, mas a comissão técnica chefiada por Diego Aguirre não desistiu do meia-atacante.

Diretoria, torcida e funcionários do clube esperam que jogador demonstre mais intensidade e poder de reação em campo. O duelo contra o Corinthians, em Itaquera, pela semifinal do Paulistão, pode ser usado como exemplo para ilustrar a fase de Diego Souza.

Naquela ocasião, o jogador entrou no segundo tempo da partida e teve pelo menos uma boa chance de fazer o gol que colocaria o Tricolor na decisão, mas não teve a postura esperada e tomou decisões erradas. Nas penalidades, Diego parou nas mãos de Cássio e o São Paulo foi eliminado do estadual.

Em sua chegada ao clube, no dia 11 de janeiro, o camisa 9 brigava por uma das 23 vagas na lista de Tite para a Copa do Mundo da Rússia. As seguidas más atuações no Tricolor praticamente liquidaram suas chances de irem para o Mundial. Ao todo, o meia-atacante soma 16 jogos, 989 minutos em campo e apenas três gols pela equipe do Morumbi.

Apesar do momento de Diego Souza não ser dos melhores, a comissão técnica acredita que o corte, justamente em um jogo tão importante, possa surtir algum efeito no atleta. Atualmente, seja entre os meio-campistas ou entre os atacantes, o camisa 9 está atrás de todos os seus concorrentes e precisa demonstrar serviço para retomar o prestígio de outrora.

O meio-campista Nenê, um dos jogadores do elenco que Diego mais tem afinidade, tem avaliação oposta. O ex-vascaíno colocou o peruano Cueva no banco de reservas e foi bem aceito pelos torcedores. O centroavante Tréllez, apesar de ainda estar devendo tecnicamente, é outro que está com o moral alto no clube por conta de sua entrega dentro de campo – justamente o que falta em Diego.

Embora a postura do camisa 9 dentro de campo não seja a ideal, fora das quatro linhas o comportamento de Diego é elogiável. O jogador tem uma boa relação com as pessoas do clube e não há nem um caso sequer de indisciplina ou atraso registrado desde a sua chegada no São Paulo. Por isso, há esperança. O problema de Diego Souza não é comprometimento, é técnico.

The PCB held the first meeting of its general body in over a decade, on Friday. The meeting was held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as per clause 17 of the PCB Constitution.The board said it was the first time the PCB general body had met since 1998, but one was held in the administration of Tauqir Zia in early 2000. A total of 73 members, made up of 18 full members, 53 associate members and two honorary members – former board chairmen Khalid Mehmood and Zia – attended the meeting.The meeting discussed the PCB’s annual report, as well as the audited accounts and budget estimates, and recommended to the governing board various measures to improve the standard of the game. Ijaz Butt, the board chairman, also talked about the need to continue developing the women’s game in Pakistan, given the achievements of the Pakistan women’s team recently. Representatives of blind and deaf cricket were also involved in the meeting.The general body is a larger, more representative body of stakeholders from around the country designed to ensure development and representation in areas such as interior Sindh and Baluchistan, where the game is not as developed as in other provinces and regions. It is supposed to meet once or twice a year and acts as the board’s parliament, where the governing board is the senate.
