The BCCI’s disciplinary committee that is considering the case against suspended IPL chairman Lalit Modi has adjourned its proceedings to September 26, after today’s hearing could not be completed in time.The BCCI has produced four witnesses on its behalf: IPL chief executive Sundar Raman, and three members of IMG, Peter Griffiths, John Loffhagen, and Paul Manning. One of Modi’s lawyers requested more time to cross examine Griffiths, the BCCI said in a statement.The hearings were originally scheduled to begin on September 13h, but were postponed for two days because Modi appealed to the Bombay High Court to remove board vice president Arun Jaitley and interim IPL chairman Chirayu Amin from the committee, saying they were biased against him. The High Court dismissed Modi’s petition earlier today. It is the second time Modi has petitioned the court to intervene in the BCCI’s proceedings against him, both times unsuccessfully.The next hearing will be held at 3.00 pm at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, with two more on September 27 and 28, as originally scheduled. If necessary, an additional session will be held on September 29 at 4.00 pm in Mumbai.”It is made clear that the recording of the cross-examination of Mr Peter Griffiths, Mr John Loffhagen, Mr Paul Manning and Mr Sundar Raman would be endeavoured to be concluded during this time,” the board said.

No dia 12 de novembro de 1933, Fluminense e Bangu se enfrentavam pela final do Campeonato Carioca no campo das Laranjeiras. Após vencer por 4 a 0, mesmo estando desfalcado e disputando a final da casa do adversário, o Bangu conquistou seu primeiro título da competição. Os gols da partida foram marcados por Plácido e Tião (3).

1946 – GOLEADA HISTÓRICA

Ainda no primeiro turno do Campeonato Carioca de 1946, o Fluminense aplicou uma goleada sobre o Bangu com o placar de 11 a 1. Na época, o time base do Tricolor era formado por Robertinho, Guálter e Haroldo; Pé-de Valsa, Pascoal e Bigode; Pedro Amorim, Simões, Ademir de Menezes, Orlando Pingo de Ouro e Rodrigues, uma equipe que preservava o jogo ofensivo e marcou 97 gols em 24 jogos.

1964 – BANGU E FLUMINENSE CHEGAM À FINAL COM O MESMO NÚMERO DE PONTOS

Na edição do Campeonato Carioca de 1964, Fluminense e Bangu chegaram à final do torneio empatados em pontos, o que levou à necessidade da realização de dois jogos extras para a decisão do título. Ao final das duas partidas de desempate, o Tricolor sagrou-se campeão ao vencer o primeiro jogo por 1 a 0 e o segundo por 3 a 1.

1985 – MARCA DRAMÁTICA NA HISTÓRIA DO BANGU

Com 90.000 torcedores ocupando as arquibancadas do Maracanã, o Fluminense vencia a final do Campeonato Carioca por 2 a 1 quando o zagueiro tricolor Vica, deu um verdadeiro golpe de judô no atacante Cláudio Adão, dentro da área. A falta aconteceu no último minuto do jogo e, apesar de ser uma penalidade clara, o árbitro José Roberto Wright não marcou o pênalti, que poderia ter mudado totalmente a história do futebol carioca, já que o Bangu jogava pelo empate. Após a partida, os banguenses ficaram devastados com o erro grotesco que gerou um dos momentos mais dramáticos da história do clube.

2002 – BANGU DEIXA OS GRAMADOS ANTES DO APITO PELA SEMIFINAL DO CAMPEONATO CARIOCA

No dia 16 de junho de 2002, Fluminense e Bangu se enfrentaram no Maracanã pela semifinal do Campeonato Carioca e a partida deu o que falar. Com o placar em 0 a 0, Eduardo foi para a área tricolor e subiu para marcar de cabeça aos 14 minutos do segundo tempo. Entretanto, o árbitro anulou o gol, alegando que houve toque de mão, e o expulsou, gerando uma grande confusão que terminou com a expulsão de Hélder e Cléberson. Inconformado com a arbitragem, todo o time do Bangu deixou o campo antes do reinício da partida a pedido do presidente Rubem Lopes e o Fluminense foi à final contra o Americano. Mais tarde, o time de Laranjeiras conquistaria seu 29º título.

Everton are interested in signing Sunderland teenage sensation Chris Rigg who is valued at £1m despite being just 14-years-old.

What’s the story?

According to The Daily Star, Everton are battling with Newcastle to sign teenage wonderkid Chris Rigg from Sunderland.

He has already featured for the Black Cats’ under 18’s side, but despite playing on Wearside, Rigg is a Newcastle fan, so Everton will have to work hard to secure his signature.

It’s not for the first time that the Toffees have been interested in signing a Sunderland prospect, with their current goalkeeper and England international Jordan Pickford coming through the Academy of Light.

He’s the best talent for his age

At just 14 he is deemed the best talent for his age and when he’s already appearing in the under-18 Premier League it’s hard to disagree.

Rigg has made seven appearances this season and has directly contributed in three goals in that time.

Thanks to Pickford’s £25.6m move to Goodison Park in 2017 it might make it easier for Everton to secure Rigg’s services. They will no doubt already have a relationship with Sunderland and they could even use Pickford to help persuade the youngster and his family to choose them.

The Black Cats will also be reluctant to let Rigg head to their closest rivals so could also try and push the player in the direction of Merseyside.

Sunderland won’t want the player to leave the Stadium of Light, but they may have no choice once Premier League clubs come calling. However, they are currently pushing for promotion out of League One and will hope that success could persuade Rigg to stay at Sunderland a bit longer.

Rigg is yet to receive a call up for England at youth level but we suspect that if he continues performing for Sunderland then it won’t be long before that happens.

In terms of if he moves, Everton are historically known for producing good players from their academy with Anthony Gordon one of the latest graduates to shine for the first team.

The prospect of working with Everton manager and Premier League legend Frank Lampard has also got to be a consideration. Whilst Rigg wouldn’t be likely to go into the first team if a move happened, to be able to have a figure like him around would be inspiring enough.

Wherever he goes it’s likely he’ll have a bright future, and this is certainly a name to keep an eye on.

Considering the odds the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to overcome to get the 12th version of the National Cricket League going, the first week of the tournament was a classic anticlimax. First, there was the issue of the availability of venues and with renovation and development for World Cup 2011 going on at the main grounds, the home-and-away format was sacrificed for neutral grounds and the duration of the event shortened. Then the New Zealand series put paid to the chances of the international stars participating in the league. As if that wasn’t enough, a late monsoon pushed the NCL’s start back by a week. When it finally kicked off, the three matches had a total of five completed innings as rain, courtesy a depression in the Bay of Bengal, forced an indefinite postponement of the tournament. Dhaka Division, however, weren’t complaining after making good use of the three days of reasonable weather up north in Rajshahi against Khulna Division but the rains held sway in the other venues.Despite having players of quality, Dhaka have not had the desired results in recent past. All that could change this year with a batting line-up boasting the class of Mohammad Ashraful, Mehrab Hossain Jr, Shamsur Rahman and the exciting talent of Rony Talukder, Shuvagoto Hom and Anamul Haque. Khulna on the other hand remain a shadow of their 2007-08 ‘dream team’ without Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Abdur Razzak, Imrul Kayes and now retired Habibul Bashar, and they were under pressure from the start after putting Dhaka in on a true surface.Having lost his place in the Bangladesh side, captain Ashraful hit a fluent 113 to revive his World Cup hopes. With the ball coming on to the bat nicely, Ashraful was unstoppable and after his exit, Hom, a stand-by for the New Zealand series, and the Bangladesh Under 19 wicketkeeper Anamul went after the Khulna attack to reach their maiden first-class tons as Dhaka surged to 496. At 191 for 6, Khulna were staring at the prospect of following on after Tushar Imran’s promising 54 was neutralised by an Ashraful delivery. Khulna captain Saghir Hossain (65) tried to lift the spirits on day three, a tough ask with Dolar Mahmud and Syed Rasel already headed for Dhaka on emergency call-up to the national team. Left-arm spinner Elias Sunny polished off the tail to finish with 5 for 77 as Khulna folded for 277 giving Dhaka the batting bonus. Ashraful did not enforce the follow-on and when Dhaka batted again Shamsur punished the severely-weakened Khulna bowling on way to a rapid 102. Closing at 170 for 5 with a lead of 489, Dhaka must have fancied full points with a clinical last-day effort. The elements however, had other plans.On a dodgy outfield battered by continuous showers in Jessore, champions Rajshahi Division were frustrated when just 15 overs could be bowled on a dry first day against Sylhet Division. On day two they found Enamul Haque Jnr (4 for 43) using all his experience and guile under a murky sky and on a sluggish pitch. Khaled Mashud’s side were dismissed for 160 and the Sylhet openers were at the crease for around five minutes and two balls before the skies opened up. Not another ball was bowled as the game was washed out.In Bogra, the towering Barisal Division left-arm seamer Shafaq Al Zabir impressed with an inspired new-ball burst that had Chittagong Division gasping at 3 for 16. Zabir was once considered the next great hope after Mortaza but could never live up to that billing. Here, however, he was in his element and had openers Gazi Salahuddin and Nafees Iqbal lbw by bringing the ball back in menacingly. Nazimuddin (91) steadied the innings but Barisal continued to take wickets at the other end. Chittagong were all out for 202 and Barisal closed the first day on 55 for 2. They limped to 119 for 6 in the 37 overs of play on the second day, but rain scuppered what was turning into an interesting tussle.Player of the week – Mohammad AshrafulKnowing that every innings matters if he wants to return to the Bangladesh side, Ashraful batted like a man possessed against Khulna. His timing, which had deserted him even in the Bangladesh nets, was back and there was a calmness and assurance about him that has not been on view recently. Dhaka had three centurions in the first innings but only one of them actually showed the way. Ashraful’s captaincy was also imaginative and he was not shy in taking the ball in his hand when others couldn’t make inroads.

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Antonio Rudiger after a fresh plea from manager Antonio Conte, according to club sources.

What’s the word?

As revealed by Football Insider this week, the north London outfit are back in the race to sign the out-of-contract Chelsea centre-back this summer in a fresh twist behind-the-scenes – just a few months after being ruled out of the running.

The 29-year-old German has been long admired by Spurs and the Italian head coach, who he once managed at Stamford Bridge, having been a top target last summer and during the recent winter window.

It now appears as if the Lilywhites will make another push to seal his signature ahead of some of Europe’s elite, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, after the 52-year-old made it clear that he wants to be reignited with his ex-star to supremo Daniel Levy.

Conte is believed to be ‘pushing hard’ to sign the free agent and it will now be a test of the chairman’s ambition heading into a big summer of business.

Rudiger coup

Whilst Spurs are far away from being the front-runners to seal the Germany international, if they manage to secure him next season, it would surely be something of a major coup for the club.

They would not only be prising him away from their arch-rivals – the Blues – but he would also fill a big need of Conte’s as he searches for a central defensive addition this summer.

Despite his contractual situation, Rudiger has remained an imperative member of Thomas Tuchel’s side, having featured in 47 games across all competitions, on the back of their Champions League triumph last term.

Across 28 league starts, the £31.5m-rated titan has won an average of 1.8 headers and 1.3 tackles per game, whilst being equally adept on the ball, managing a seasonal passing accuracy of 87.8%, so it’s no wonder Conte retains an interest as his ball-playing and physical ability would be an ideal fit in N17.

Such form for the Blues has led to some high praise indeed.

Premier League great Rio Ferdinand, now a pundit for BT Sport, lauded the 6 foot 3 colossus as an “animal,” with his current boss describing his performance against Real Madrid earlier this month as “world-class” and “outstanding.”

Given his current value, form, ability and suitability to Conte, as evident above, Rudiger would indeed be a major coup for the north Londoners this off-season. Fabio Paratici and his recruitment team must now deliver for Levy as the supremo will want to keep the Italian as happy as possible.
