Though Abu Dhabi has hosted ODIs before, this will be Dubai’s first international cricket match and as quasi-hosts, Pakistan are impressed with the facilities.The 25,000 capacity cricket ground was completed earlier this year, as one of four stadiums inside the Sports City. “The stadium and facilities are absolutely magnificent,” Pakistan’s captain Younis Khan told Cricinfo. “For players practicing here and just looking around, it is a very impressive ground. It’s not often that you get to play at such a ground. Usually we only come to Dubai to shop but we’re looking forward to playing here.”Pakistan’s squad will have been there for nearly a week when the series finally begins, acclimatising to the conditions, and Younis said a familiar set-up and faces had helped them settle in. “The people around here are very good to us and there are many of the same faces as there were in Sharjah when it was thriving as a venue,” he said. “That way it isn’t new, which could’ve been problematic, and the familiarity has helped. Guys like Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik and I, we have experience of Sharjah so it has helped.”Though security around the ground and the team hotel is very tight, the comfort and familiarity bodes well for the future, as Younis acknowledges. “This is a very important contest for the entire country because of what has been happening over the years,” he said. “We’ve been worrying over the last two years constantly about who will come and who won’t. But now we’re playing at a neutral venue and it is a significant moment.”

An update has emerged on Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, regarding Newcastle’s interest in his services.

According to The Times, the Gers head coach is one of the leading candidates to take over at St. James’ Park, with Steve Bruce on the verge of being relieved of his duties.

The report claims Villarreal’s Unai Emery and Belgium’s Roberto Martinez are the other two names the Premier League side are looking at alongside Gerrard.

This major update on Newcastle’s manager search will surely leave Rangers fans feeling worried, especially after Gerrard’s recent comments on the situation.

When asked about links to St. James’ Park, Gerrard admitted that he is not a fan of the speculation, but refused to rule out an exit from Ibrox. He said: 

“I don’t react or get involved in any speculation, especially when someone I have the utmost respect for is sitting in that job. Steve is a great character, someone I’ve got a personal relationship with. Sitting in this position, I wouldn’t like people to speculate about my job, so I certainly won’t be getting involved in speculation towards his.

“It’s interesting what’s happening at Newcastle. If anyone deserves a break, it’s the Geordie fans, so I’m sure the excitement levels are very high. Everyone connected in the game is looking on with interest.”

These quotes do not indicate that Gerrard is eager to quit Rangers, but they also do not rule out the possibility of a switch to the English side. This latest report from The Times now appears to amp up the speculation, with the ex-Liverpool man being a ‘leading candidate’ for the role, rather than just another one of the names linked with the job.

Newcastle could, therefore, be seriously interested in prying him away from the Scottish giants. This is why Rangers fans will be worried about what this means for the Liverpudlian’s future, with the Magpies potentially preparing to make a move for him if they pull the plug on Bruce’s time on Tyneside.

Gerrard has won 2.15 points per game on average throughout his time in Glasgow, managing the club in 186 matches to date. He led them to the Scottish Premiership title last term which prevented Celtic from reaching 10-in-a-row and these achievements highlight why supporters have a right to be concerned by rumours surrounding his future, as he has proven himself to be an excellent manager in Scotland.

The dust has barely settled on Monday night’s dramatic draw and Arsenal are already back in Premier League action as they welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Once dubbed a “phenomenon” by journalist Lars Sivertsen to The Athletic, the Norwegian’s returns have not been good enough since signing on a permanent basis, with only one goal and one assist across all competitions.

A major update has emerged regarding the current injury situations of Rangers duo Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack.

What’s the latest?

Manager Steven Gerrard has revealed that they are both set to return to action before the international break in two weeks’ time, although they will be watching on from the stands for the clash with Motherwell on Sunday.

The former Liverpool captain has also confirmed that Borna Barisic will be absent as he nurses a minor knock and will be back in contention against Brondby on Thursday.

Gerrard told the Daily Record: “Motherwell is too close for both Ryan Jack and Kent but will both likely be with us before the international break. Borna is also missing with a small injury but will return for the European match next week.

“Missing a player of Ryan Kent’s quality is always going to have an impact because of his high quality. He is not too far away and has worked extremely hard to return.”

Fans will be delighted

Rangers fans will surely be left feeling delighted by this update from Gerrard as it indicates that both Kent and Jack will make an appearance in one of the two games after Sunday’s clash with Motherwell, with matches against Brondby and Ross County to come prior to the next round of internationals.

Kent has been out of action since 16 September and Jack has not made a single appearance since February. This means that Gers fans have not been able to enjoy their talents for a fair chunk of time, particularly in the latter’s case, and they could be buzzing to see them back out on the pitch.

Both players have shown their class for the Gers in previous seasons and the Ibrox faithful will surely be delighted by the prospect of having them both back on the pitch.

Former Liverpool winger Kent has proven his quality at Premiership level. Last season, he produced an impressive 10 goals and nine assists in the division as Rangers won the title, averaging an eye-catching SofaScore rating of 7.23 across 37 appearances.

Meanwhile, Jack averaged a score of 7.14 in 19 league games prior to his injury last term. He completed 90% of his passes from central midfield and made 2.2 tackles and interceptions per game whilst winning 56% of his individual duels over the course of the campaign.

At at time when the Gers’ form has been unconvincing, having the duo back soon will come as a huge fillip to Gerrard.

وعن الاشتباك مع كوفاسيتش، أكمل كونتي: “هذا ليس مهمًا، يمكن أن يحدث عندما تكون العاطفة عالية من كلا الجانبين، كان الاحتفال واضحًا جدًا فيما يتعلق بما تعنيه هذه المباراة للناديين، وربما أيضًا للمدربين”.

وشدد: “أعتقد أن هذه المباراة مهمة لكلا الناديين، بالتأكيد بالنسبة لي كانت مهمة لأن لا أحب خسارة 3 مباريات متتالية ضد نفس المدرب، أنا أكره الخسارة وأنت تعلم جيدًا أنني أحاول ذلك وأنقل عقليتي وشغفي إلى لاعبي فريقي لأنك يمكن أن تكون جيدًا من الناحية التكتيكية والفنية، ولكنك تحتاج بعد ذلك إلى دماء طيبة في وريدك للقتال من أجل شيء مهم”.
