Celtic have begun the new season in topsy-turvy fashion.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men have bounced back in perfect style. They won their first Europa League qualifying clash and then smacked Dundee for six last week.

One of the biggest success stories from Postecoglou’s reign so far is undoubtedly Anthony Ralston.

The right-back was barely seen throughout the 2020/21 campaign, featuring just once under Neil Lennon and John Kennedy combined.

Though, he’s come flying out of the traps during the new season and has immediately become one of the first names on the team sheet.

Ralston has scored two goals, including a brilliant individual strike against Hearts in their 2-1 defeat at Tannadice.

That being said, whether he can sustain this consistency very much remains to be seen.

Other options

Celtic continue to track various right-backs with Yan Couto and Aurelio Buta considered. Another option could be Fabricio Bustos.

That’s according to reports in France who suggest that the Bhoys are in pole position to sign the defender from Argentine side Independiente in a deal worth €4m (£3.4m).

Standing at just 5 foot 5, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Bustos is a rather weak full-back. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

During a training session with Argentina a number of years ago, he was forced to apologise to a certain Lionel Messi for a robust challenge.

The defender recalled: “I was strong to a play that could have been avoided and that is why I apologized at the time. He told me that nothing was happening and I calmed down. It serves as my experience for everything that comes.”

The statistics paint a picture that Bustos is a very tough-tackling player too.

During the 2021 Copa de la Professional, the 25-year-old was in particularly vibrant form. Over the course of 13 matches, Bustos has won 2.2 tackles and made 2.2 interceptions per match.

Although Ralston has won a mighty 3.5 tackles per game this term, he has only produced one successful interception per game.

The Independiente full-back is also particularly strong in the offensive phases of play. He has made 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per outing in Argentina’s domestic cup for instance.

Although Celtic’s current option has proved he has what it takes to star at Parkhead, they could do with another option as the campaign plays out.

Leicester City could form a formidable midfield partnership this summer after being linked with a move for Lazio’s Joaquin Correa.

What’s the story?

According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica (as reported by Get Football News Italy), the Foxes are lining up a potential €25 million (£21.2m) offer for the 26-year-old over the coming months, although the player himself may have to be convinced on the move.

Correa would be Leicester’s fourth signing of the current window following the arrivals of Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand, who have all arrived as very useful additions to an already impressive first-team squad.

Correa enjoyed a fabulous 2020/21 campaign, bagging 11 goals and providing six assists in 38 games for Lazio, achieving a highly respectable 6.90 WhoScored rating as a result.

His impressive exploits at club level earned him a call-up to the Argentine national team setup for the recent Copa America tournament, where Correa made three appearances for Lionel Scaloni’s successful side.

These returns saw Rahul Warrier dub the South American a “menace” and clearly caught the eye of clubs across the continent.

Leicester’s apparent interest in Correa comes as little shock then, with the Midlands outfit believed to be in the market for another attacker ahead of the upcoming campaign.

After the departure of Cengiz Under following his unsuccessful loan spell, Marc Albrighton is the only natural right-winger available to Brendan Rodgers, something the Northern Irish tactician is keen to address.

And although Correa is more comfortable playing through the middle, his versatility could be an extremely appealing asset for the former Liverpool boss.

The Lazio ace has established a reputation as a fine technical player, blessed with incredible dribbling ability and an eye for a pass, skills which would perfectly compliment Youri Tielemans in the Leicester engine room.

Correa is comfortable playing on either flank, in the No.10 role, or even slightly deeper in the No.8 position, but he’d be capable of developing a potentially devastating partnership with the Belgium international wherever he lined up, such is the quality that both men possess.

It remains to be seen whether the Leicester hierarchy follow up their interest with a concrete offer, but the club’s supporters will surely be urging director of football Jon Rudkin to stump up the money and add another quality addition to Rodgers’ ranks.

O clima não anda nada bom pelo lado do Santos. Na tarde desta segunda-feira (20), torcedores da Torcida Jovem, principal organizada do Santos, foram ao Business Center, em São Paulo, protestar contra a gestão de José Carlos Peres, que sofre com dívidas trabalhistas e processos na Fifa.

O tom da conversa foi forte. O LANCE! teve acesso a áudios da ‘bronca’ dos torcedores. Em certa parte da discussão, um deles diz:

– Nestes dois anos nós fomos passivos pra car… Acabou! Fomos taxados de bunda-mole por não ter cobrado, estamos tentando diálogo há dois anos. Não vem mentir pra nós – afirmou.

Num outro momento da conversa, Peres se defende das acusações alegando que o Santos não fez demissões durante a pandemia do novo coronavírus.

– Pagamos o que pudemos. Conversei várias vezes com o elenco. Os funcionários que ganham até R$ 6 mil e são os mais vulneráveis não foram demitidos – afirmou o mandatário.

Um ponto que foi levantado pelos torcedores é a falta de presença de Peres no dia a dia do clube. Um deles lembrou até mesmo Jorge Sampaoli, que reclamava da distância do presidente no CT Rei Pelé.

A questão financeira não anda nada boa no Santos. De ontem para hoje, Everson e Sasha pediram rescisão na Justiça, reclamando de atrasos no pagamento de direitos de imagem, FGTS e a redução de 70% no salário dos jogadores, que não foi combinado anteriormente.

Guy Whittall and Stuart Matsikenyeri were unbeaten on 25 and four runs respectively at the close.Manicaland captain Alistair Campbell won the toss and elected to bat first on a good batting pitch. His decision paid dividends as Sims and Ferreira started to generate the runs. The two took advantage of some loose bowling by the Matabeleland bowlers, combined with some poor fielding.Sims, better known as an off-spinner who recently went into the Zimbabwe cricket history books for the wrong reasons, was the more aggressive of the two, smashing the home bowlers all over the park. Ferreira on the other hand kept his head down and played the accurate shots. The visitors went for lunch on the driving seat on 124 without loss off 38 overs, with Sims on 89 runs while Ferreira was on 31.Sims reached his century after facing 131 balls, smashing 18 fours and a six. Ferreira was to achieve the same feat off 245 balls with eight fours. The home side used seven bowlers and none of them seemed to offer any solution as the Manicaland score kept on ticking. What made the situation worse was the dropping of left-arm spinner Keith Dabengwa from the team for medium pacer Piet Rinke. This left Gavin Ewing as the only full-time spinner in the bowling attack.Sims was to get his double century off 277 balls, after staying at the crease for 339 minutes with 31 fours and a six. His stay was however brought to an end when young pace bowler Jordane Nicolle finally found the breakthrough. Sims played a powerful on-drive off Nicolle with substitute fielder Dabengwa well positioned to take a brilliant catch, removing Sims for 204 off 282 balls.Ferreira went on to add 45 runs for the second wicket with Guy Whittall before he was the second and last wicket of the day to fall, dismissed by Rinke for 120 when wicketkeeper Wisdom Siziba caught him behind. The Matabeleland bowlers really had a torrid time trying to find ways of removing their opponents with none of them managing to contain the visitors’ batsmen. Charles Coventry, bowling leg-breaks at one stage, gave away 18 runs off one over and finished with 22 off just two overs.Manicaland will now be aiming to get a defendable total and then declare. With Whittall and Stuart Matsikenyeri still batting and Campbell yet to come, the visitors seem on track to pile up a commanding total.

He has been experiencing difficulties with his fitnessand, although fully recovered, has agreed with the club that it is mutuallybeneficial for him to leave at the end of the season.Chief Executive David East commented: “Mark has been an excellent servantfor the Club, and is currently in his benefit year.
