Baroda left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt took six wickets to run through Odisha’s middle order on the first day in Vadodara. Odisha’s Govind Podder made a battling 82 but he had very little support from the rest of the batsmen, with five of the top seven making single-digit scores. Around lunch time, Odisha were at a reasonably comfortable 82 for 2, before a Bhatt double-strike, including the wicket of the in-form Biplab Samantary, pulled them back. Bhatt struck twice in an over soon after leaving Odisha at 105 for 6, and it took a brisk unbeaten 37 from the No. 9 Saurabh Sehgal to take the score to 181. Baroda lost the wicket of opener Saurabh Wakaskar as they reached 34 for 1 by stumps.

Suresh Raina fluffed another chance to press for a place in the Test middle order by falling for 8, but Uttar Pradesh still finished the day on a solid 248 for 4 thanks to a long partnership between Mohammad Kaif and opener Mukul Dagar. Vidarbha removed Tanmay Srivastava in the third over, before Kaif and Dagar put on 195 patient runs for the second wicket. Dagar went on to complete his third century in five matches, while for the third time this Ranji season Kaif failed to reach his hundred despite crossing 80. Vidarbha got some respite towards the end of the day as Sandeep Singh removed both Kaif and Raina, before Shrikant Wagh had Dagar bowled for 116.

Haryana’s batting has been notoriously fragile this season, and they seemed headed for another low total after slipping to 63 for 4 against Maharashtra, but substantial contributions from the lower-middle order lifted them to a middling score. Opener Rahul Dewan was the only one in the top order to resist as Maharashtra’s quicks struck several times early. Yatharth Tomar, playing only his second first-class match and his first since 2010, hit 48 to steady the innings before Amit Mishra, who made a crucial half-century in their win over Delhi earlier this week, chipped in with 35. The top scorer of the innings was Jayant Yadav, with 63, his second first-class half-century.

On a pitch that resembled a lawn, with the only patches of white near the rough on either side, Karnataka captain Vinay Kumar chose to give his batsmen first use of the pitch, despite their batting struggles all season. While it might be perceived as a brave decision, it backfired on the hosts. Karnataka were still searching for their first outright win, and they were presented with what looked like a result-oriented wicket. Delhi weren’t complaining though. Their seamers, led by Parvinder Awana, bundled out the hosts for 192 and ended the day in front despite losing two wickets as the shadows lengthened in Bangalore. A full match report is here.

Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar have yet to experience a Test victory when they have bowled in tandem for England, but after sharing nine India first-innings wickets at the Wankhede they remain hopeful that they can finally put that right at the eighth attempt.Swann took three of the last four India wickets to fall on the second day in Mumbai, including his 200th Test wicket, providing much-needed support for Panesar at a time when India seemed to be taking the game away from England. Instead, the game is a tight one with England, 178 for 2 at the close of the second day, trailing by 149.”We love playing together but our record as a team hasn’t been that successful when we have done so we are looking to change that,” Swann said. “I’m a big advocate of playing two spinners. I love playing with Monty – I grew up with him at Northamptonshire.”I love it when he takes a wicket. That face like a man possessed when he got Sachin Tendulkar out yesterday – I have never seen a man so wound up in my life.”Swann, who began the series with a 51-over marathon in India’s first innings in Ahmedabad, cannot survive that sort of workload, especially bearing in mind his susceptible elbow, but England need a change in fortune when he teams up with Panesar.In fairness to both, it has been England’s vulnerability when batting against spin, rather than their own bowling limitations, which makes their own record appear such a poor one.Swann prefers the Wankhede track to the one he toiled on at Motera. “Even though there is turn and bounce it is a very nice wicket to bat on,” he said. “It is going to start spinning more but good Test pitches should do that.”This pitch is better to bowl spin on than last week. When Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen reached the close unscathed, with their third wicket stand worth 110 runs, it spared Swann an unexpected nightwatchman’s role.England had kept faith in the job of nightwatchman, they had just replaced the man employed to do it, Jimmy Anderson. With Tim Bresnan, another candidate dropped, Swann, as their most capable lower-order batsman against spin, found the role thrust upon him.”Apart from me having my pads on as nightwatchman it was a very calm changing room,” Swann said. “I don’t know why it was me. I think I lost the toss.”Swann become the first English offspinner to complete 200 Test wickets when he dismissed Harbhajan Singh. Only Derek Underwood lies ahead of him. “Five years ago I wouldn’t have dreamt of taking 200 wickets,” he said. “The change at the top was just at the right time for me.”The change was Duncan Fletcher’s departure as England coach. Swann was never his type. As he relished his 200th wicket, Swann must have been delighted that Fletcher been forced to watch him reach it.

وأفاد مصدر لـ”بطولات” أن النادي الأهلي يطلب بطلان كل القرارات الصادرة من اللجنة منذ تعيينها في 12 مارس الماضي، مؤكدًا أن لائحة النظام الأساسي للاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم لا تمنح الحق في تعيين وتشكيل لجنة كاملة.

وكان الأهلي أعلن تلقيه خطاباً من الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم، بشأن القرارات الصادرة بحق النادي الأهلي ولاعب الفريق الأول لكرة القدم محمود عبد المنعم كهربا.

ScorecardEven if they were to win Friday night’s jackpot on the Euromillions lottery, it is doubtful whether Kent could buy a championship win just now.Having allowed Hampshire to claim a surprise draw at the Ageas Bowl a fortnight ago, Kent then slid to a shock two-wicket defeat at Derby having, in their eyes at least, dominated all but two sessions of the match.Then just when it appeared Rob Key’s side’s fortunes were changing for the better, Essex’s skipper James Foster inspired a comeback that could yet leave Kent on the wrong end of another result on Kentish soil.All had looked rosy in the Garden of England an hour into the second day, Ladies Day at Canterbury Week. Essex had slumped to 23 for 4, Kent’s seamers Charlie Shreck and Matt Coles were at times unplayable as they hooped the new ball under steamy, overcast skies and even the Shepherd Neame bitter tasted like nectar.In reply to Kent’s first day total of 226, Essex had lost opener Jaik Mickleburgh to a good tumbling catch behind the stumps off Shreck, then Tom Westley, leg before to a Coles in-ducker. Owais Shah hooked his second ball from Coles over the ropes at mid-wicket, but Coles had his revenge by having Shah caught at slip without addition.Mark Pettini was squared up by a Shreck snorter, an away-swinger which pitched on middle and clipped the top of off. When Ryan ten Doeschate chased a wide one from Stevens on the cusp of lunch to make it 76 for 5, Kent scented a useful first innings lead. How wrong they were.James Foster emerged to play an inspiring, game-changing, backs-to-the-wall knock that quite simply knocked the stuffing out of Kent.In relatively high temperatures for this summer, around 24C, and in high humidity Foster dogged it out for four and three-quarter hours, facing 226 balls for a modest return of five boundaries as Kent ran out of ideas to dislodge him.In tandem with Adam Wheater, Foster helped add 126 in 33.2 overs for the sixth wicket. Every run was hard-earned, yet fully deserved.Foster’s tenacity allowed Wheater to play with more freedom and his eye-catching innings of 82 included a dozen crisply-timed boundaries, many of them aerial. Wheater undid much of his good work just before tea when a reckless, pre-empted reverse sweep against spinner Adam Riley led to his demise leg before.It was no matter to Foster though. He teamed up with Graham Napier after the interval to add another precious 52 runs before Kent finally enjoyed further success with the second new ball.Foster nicked a Darren Stevens away-swinger to slip to go for 76 then Napier followed soon after, pocketed by Geraint Jones off the wily Charlie Shreck, whose next ball removed David Masters to a catch in the cordon. Although Maurice Chambers survived the hat-trick delivery, Shreck dismissed him at slip two overs later to finish with a creditable 5-51, his second five-for since moving from Nottinghamshire.Bouyed by their surprise 47-run lead, Essex set about reducing the Kent faithful to a whimpering wrecks by stumps as they prized out three batsmen within 21 balls.Key, though he clearly disagreed, was given caught behind down the leg-side when attempting to glance at Napier, the nightwatchman Riley had his stumps rearranged by Chambers then Harbhajan Singh out-foxed Sam Northeast to win a leg before appeal to the last ball of the day.Now, about those lottery numbers!

تحدث محمد بركات، لاعب الأهلي السابق، عن فوز المارد الأحمر على القطن الكاميروني، أمس الجمعة، برباعية نظيفة، في الجولة الخامسة من دور المجموعات بدوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وقال بركات في تصريحاته عبر برنامج “الريمونتادا” على قناة “المحور”: “لاعبو الأهلي قدموا المستوى المطلوب والمميز أمام القطن، الهدف كان تحقيق الفوز، وإرضاء جمهور النادي الذي كان حزينًا بسبب نتائج دور المجموعات”.

وتابع: “عودة اللاعبين لشخصية الأهلي وراء الفوز على القطن الكاميروني بتلك النتيجة، كان هُناك جماعية في مستوى وأداء الفريق بشكل واضح خلال مواجهة القطن، والتعاون كان ظاهرًا في كل شيء”.

وأضاف: “كهربا أثبت أنه واحد من أهم لاعبي الأهلي في الوقت الحالي، يُسجل أهدافًا كثيرة لكونه يلعب بذكاء ويتواجد في المكان الصحيح ويتحرك بشكل مميز، كل هذه الأمور تؤكد ذكاءه وموهبته”.

وواصل: “أرقام كهربا مع الأهلي تؤكد أن الكلام (الخايب) الذي يُقال عليه إنه يسهر وليس ملتزمًا أو في حالة عدم تركيز، غير صحيح”.

واستكمل: “مروان عطية صفقة ممتازة للنادي الأهلي، وبيرسي تاو هو نجم المارد الأحمر في مباراة صن داونز رغم الخسارة وواصل تألقه أمام القطن الكاميروني، وعودة اللاعب الجنوب إفريقي لمستواه بمثابة إضافة قوية للفريق، لأنه كان يُعاني بسبب كثرة إصاباته، ولكن بمجرد عودته لمستواه ظهر بمستوى مميز”.

وأردف: “يبقى الأهلي المرشح الأول لدوري أبطال إفريقيا حال تأهله من دور المجموعات، التغييرات الكثيرة في تشكيل الأحمر لا يُمكن معرفة سببها من جانب كولر، هذه وجهة نظر المدرب الفنية، ويجب على الفريق أن يستفيد من درس دور المجموعات هذا الموسم، ولا يُهدر النقاط في البدايات”.

وعن مباراة اليوم بين الهلال وصن داونز والتي ستحسم تأهل الأول رفقة الثاني والإطاحة بالأهلي في حالة فوز الفريق السوداني، قال بركات: “في جنوب إفريقيا لا يُفكرون في (التفويت)، وصن داونز سيلعب لنفسه لكونه فريق كرة محترم”.

واختتم: “أؤكد لجمهور الأهلي لا تقلقوا من فكرة (تفويت) صن داونز للهلال، الفريق الجنوب إفريقي (مش زي ناس تانية)، الهلال يملك مدربا مخضرما وهو إبينجي، فضلا عن اللاعبين المميزين”.

Shakib Al Hasan had sat out Kolkata Knight Riders’ first two matches, much to the disappointment of his fans in Bangladesh, but on a slow and turning Eden Gardens pitch he responded with a match-winning performance. He struck three crucial, timely blows with the ball, squeezing out whatever momentum Rajasthan Royals had managed to build, and then smashed a couple of boundaries to prevent a tricky chase from getting trickier in the closing stages.It was Shakib’s haul of 3 for 17 that proved decisive in the end. He dismissed the Royals openers after their partnership had started to gather pace; he came back to break another substantial stand, between Shreevats Goswami and Owais Shah, that could have hurt Knight Riders. Royals, though, somehow adapted to the slowness of the pitch, and took 15 runs off the last over to set Knight Riders a challenging target.Jacques Kallis and Manvinder Bisla ensured Knight Riders did not lose wickets as they kept up with the modest asking-rate, and Shakib and Manoj Tiwary produced the few big strokes needed towards the end.Royals had started well, with Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane putting on 45 in six overs. Dravid got away a few boundaries with uncharacteristic charges down the track against the medium-pacers while Rahane cover-drove and swept offspinner Sunil Narine for consecutive boundaries.Shakib, though, had an immediate impact. Rahane tried to push Shakib’s first delivery on the off side, but it turned sharply to take the outside edge to the wicketkeeper. The second ball of Shakib’s second over was tossed up invitingly. Dravid went after it, and found extra cover.In between those two dismissals Ashok Menaria, batting ahead of Brad Hodge and Owais Shah, ran himself out after a couple of let-offs.Royals had slipped from 45 for no loss to 49 for 3 but Shah and Goswami were to double that score with safe accumulation. The duo threatened more damage after taking 16 off the 16th over, bowled by Rajat Bhatia.Enter Shakib in the 17th over. Shah drilled him down the ground for four but Goswami mishit a sweep to midwicket. Narine bowled an excellent penultimate over, getting a clueless Shah stumped off a flicked delivery that spun away from the right-hander. Johan Botha was rendered as clueless as Shah for the rest of the over, which went for just three.Royals managed to swing L Balaji for a couple of boundaries in the last over to give their attack just about enough to defend on a helpful pitch. Though Gautam Gambhir was run out early, Kallis and Bisla were in control as they chipped away at the target. The medium-pacers were targeted, as was left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan. Johan Botha and Brad Hogg were negotiated without needless bravado.The highest the asking-rate was allowed to go was eight an over after the 17th. When it reached that level, Knight Riders had Shakib, who delivered. Again.

No domingo, enfrentam o Vitória em mais uma rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro. O retorno ao Rio de Janeiro acontecerá somente na segunda-feira.
